Indiana TRF Retirement Calculator
The Indiana Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRF, part of INPRS) calculates a pension as 1.1% multiplied by your average annual compensation multiplied by your years of service. Enter your numbers below for an estimate.
Enter your numbers. The percentage is pre-filled with the 1.1% TRF multiplier; adjust it for your tier or service level.
TRF uses a 1.1% multiplier on your average annual compensation (the average of your highest five years). Early retirement before your normal retirement age reduces the benefit. Confirm with Indiana TRF.

Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Uses a simplified Indiana TRF formula and your inputs; your real benefit varies by tier, service, age, and salary rules.
How the Indiana TRF formula works
Indiana TRF is a hybrid. The defined-benefit pension uses a 1.1% multiplier on your average annual compensation, the average of your highest five years, and you also have a separate Annuity Savings Account (a defined-contribution balance you direct). This calculator estimates the defined-benefit side only.
This calculator uses a single percentage and a simplified formula, so treat the result as an estimate and confirm your figure with TRF. Indiana teachers also pay into Social Security. Use the full Teacher Retirement Calculator to combine your pension with your 403(b)/457(b) and Social Security, or read what the WEP and GPO repeal means for teachers.
Questions
How is a Indiana TRF pension calculated?
The TRF benefit multiplies a 1.1% multiplier by your average annual compensation by your years of service. For example, 30 years at a $55,000 average annual compensation is 1.1% × $55,000 × 30 = $18,150 per year before any early-retirement reduction.
What is the Annuity Savings Account?
It is the defined-contribution part of Indiana TRF, a personal account funded by contributions and investment returns that you receive in addition to the 1.1% defined-benefit pension. This tool estimates only the defined-benefit pension.
Do Indiana teachers get Social Security?
Yes. Indiana teachers pay into Social Security, so most receive a TRF benefit plus a Social Security benefit. Adding any 403(b) or 457(b) savings completes the picture.
