Tennessee TCRS Retirement Calculator
The Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) calculates the legacy pension as 1.5% multiplied by your average final compensation multiplied by your years of service. Enter your numbers below for an estimate.
Enter your numbers. The percentage is pre-filled with the 1.5% legacy multiplier; set it to 1 if you are a Hybrid member hired after July 2014.
Legacy members (hired before July 1, 2014) use a 1.5% multiplier on your average final compensation (highest 5 consecutive years), plus a small supplement on pay above the Social Security integration level. Hybrid members (hired on or after July 1, 2014) use a 1% defined-benefit multiplier plus a 401(k) account, set the percentage to 1 to estimate the Hybrid pension side. Confirm with Tennessee TCRS.

Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Uses a simplified Tennessee TCRS formula and your inputs; your real benefit varies by plan, service, age, and salary rules.
How the Tennessee TCRS formula works
Legacy members, hired before July 1, 2014, have an all-defined-benefit pension using a 1.5% multiplier on average final compensation, the average of your five highest consecutive years, with a small additional supplement on pay above the Social Security integration level. Hybrid members, hired on or after July 1, 2014, have a smaller 1% defined-benefit pension paired with a 401(k) plan funded by employee and employer contributions.
Which tier you belong to depends on your hire date, and it changes the pension side substantially, so confirm before relying on a number. This calculator estimates the defined-benefit side only; set the percentage to 1 for the Hybrid pension and remember your 401(k) is separate. Tennessee teachers also pay into Social Security. Questions
How is a Tennessee TCRS pension calculated?
The legacy TCRS benefit multiplies a 1.5% multiplier by your average final compensation by your years of service. For example, 30 years at a $55,000 average final compensation is 1.5% × $55,000 × 30 = $24,750 per year.
What is the difference between TCRS Legacy and Hybrid?
Legacy members (hired before July 1, 2014) have an all-defined-benefit pension at a 1.5% multiplier. Hybrid members (hired on or after July 1, 2014) have a 1% defined-benefit pension plus a 401(k). Set the percentage to 1 to estimate the Hybrid pension side.
Do Tennessee teachers get Social Security?
Yes. Tennessee teachers pay into Social Security, so most receive a TCRS benefit plus a Social Security benefit. Adding any 403(b) or 457(b) savings completes the picture.
