Texas TRS Pension Calculator
Texas TRS multiplies your years of service by 2.3% by your final average salary (the average of your five highest annual salaries, or three if you are grandfathered). Normal-age retirement follows the Rule of 80. Enter your numbers below.
Enter your numbers. The multiplier is pre-filled with the Texas TRS standard; adjust it if your tier differs.
Newer members have a minimum retirement age even under the Rule of 80, and grandfathered members use a 3-year salary average. Confirm your tier with Texas TRS.

How the Texas TRS formula works
Texas TRS uses a standard 2.3% multiplier: years of service times 2.3% times your final average salary. Final average salary is the average of your five highest years of salary (three years if you were grandfathered under older rules). You reach normal-age retirement under the Rule of 80, when your age plus years of service total 80, subject to a minimum age for newer members.
This calculator gives you the pension piece. Most Texas educators also have a 403(b) or 457(b) and Social Security, and after the 2025 repeal of WEP and GPO most teachers now keep their full Social Security too. Use the full Teacher Retirement Calculator to see all three sources together, or read what the WEP and GPO repeal means for teachers.
Questions
How is a Texas TRS pension calculated?
Texas TRS multiplies your years of service by 2.3% by your final average salary (average of your 5 highest years). For example, 30 years on a $70,000 final average salary is about $48,300 a year.
Will my pension reduce my Social Security?
No longer for most teachers. The Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset were repealed by the Social Security Fairness Act in January 2025, so most educators now receive their full Social Security benefit alongside their Texas TRS pension.
